Volvo service in Athens, from people who know the brand
Many Volvo owners in Clarke County keep their cars for 15 years or more. Many XC90s and V70s go well past 200,000 miles. The key is care from a shop that knows the brand.
Our owner is James Miner, an ASE Master Technician. He started on foreign cars in 1972. Call 706-353-3880. We are on Winterville Road on the Eastside.

Common Volvo problems we fix
PCV breather box
The PCV breather box lets crankcase gases out of the engine. On Volvo five cylinder engines it clogs with sludge. Pressure builds and pushes oil past the seals. We replace the box and the hoses.
ETM on late 90s models
ETM stands for electronic throttle module. It controls how much air the engine gets. On 1999 to 2002 Volvos it wears out and the car stalls or surges. We replace it with an updated unit.
Sway bar links
Sway bar links tie the sway bar to the suspension. On Volvo they wear and clunk over bumps. It is a small part that makes a lot of noise. We replace them in pairs.
Angle gear on AWD models
The angle gear sends power to the rear wheels on all wheel drive Volvos. Its sleeve can strip and the rear wheels stop pulling. We check it and repair it.
Oil leaks
Volvo engines leak from the cam seals and the oil pan. A clogged PCV system makes it worse. We fix the cause and the leak together.
Timing belt
Older Volvo engines use a timing belt. It must be changed around 100,000 miles. A broken belt bends valves. We replace the belt, tensioner and water pump together.

Being a single woman in Athens, I did not feel like I was being taken advantage of like I have at most other repair shops. They were polite, courteous and respectful. After checking prices I found they were least expensive for what I had done. I am very pleased and will definitely be a return customer.
Marucci, C., customerVolvo repair FAQ
Do you work on Volvo in Athens?
Yes. Athens Import Auto Repair has serviced Volvo cars in Athens, GA since 1991. We work on the XC90, XC60, S60, V70 and more. Wagons, sedans and SUVs are all welcome.
Why does my Volvo leak oil?
A clogged PCV breather box is the usual cause. It builds pressure inside the engine and pushes oil out the seals. We replace the breather box and then fix the leaks.
What is the ETM on a Volvo?
ETM is the electronic throttle module. It opens and closes the throttle for the engine. On 1999 to 2002 models it wears out and causes stalling. We replace it.
Why does my Volvo clunk over bumps?
Worn sway bar links are the most common reason. They are small rods that connect the sway bar to the strut. We replace them and check the rest of the suspension.
When should I change the timing belt on my Volvo?
Around 100,000 miles or ten years, whichever comes first. We replace the belt, tensioner and water pump together. That way you do not pay the labor twice.
Do you service Volvo all wheel drive?
Yes. We service the angle gear, the Haldex coupling and the rear differential. Fresh fluid keeps the system pulling the way it should.
