Axle and CV Joint Repair for Imports in Athens, GA
A click when you turn is the sound of a CV joint asking for help. Athens Import Auto Repair does axle and CV joint repair for imports in Athens, GA. That includes Honda, Subaru, VW, Audi, BMW, Mini and more.
Axle and CV Joint done right, by people who know imports
The axle is the shaft that carries power from the transmission to the wheel. The CV joint is the flexible joint at each end. A rubber boot keeps grease in and dirt out, so once that boot tears, the joint wears fast.

Honda Accord and Civic outer boots tear, and then the joint clicks on turns. Subaru Outback and Forester have four axles, and the inner joints can clunk. VW and Audi inner CV joints wear and shudder on takeoff. BMW and Mercedes-Benz rear drive cars use a driveshaft with a rubber flex disc that cracks. Mini Cooper axles seep at the transmission seal. Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX axle seals leak on the differential side. We handle all of these at Athens Import Auto Repair in Athens, GA.

What our axle service includes
Axle and boot inspection
We check each boot for cracks and each joint for play. Then we look for grease where it should not be.
CV axle replacement
When a joint is worn, we replace the whole axle. That way you get two new joints and two new boots.
CV boot replacement
If we catch a torn boot early, the joint can be saved. We clean it out, pack in fresh grease and fit a new boot.
Axle seal replacement
The seal where the axle enters the transmission can leak. With the axle already out, we replace the seal too.
Driveshaft and center bearing
Rear drive imports use a driveshaft. Its center bearing and rubber flex disc wear out and vibrate, so we replace them.
Wheel hub and bearing check
The hub holds the axle at the wheel. Since we are in there, we check it for play too.
How an axle repair works
Tell us the sound
Does it click or clunk on turns, or shake at speed?
We inspect on the lift
We check the boots, the joints and the hubs, then spin the wheels and listen.
You approve the fix
We explain the choice: boot only, or the full axle.
We replace and road test
We install the part and torque the axle nut to spec. Then we drive the car to be sure.

Why drivers trust us with axle and cv joint
Correct fit axles
Import axles have exact lengths and splines, so we use parts that match. That way there is no vibration.
We catch boots early
A boot costs far less than an axle, so we check boots at every oil change.
Rear and all wheel drive too
BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru and Audi have axles at every corner, and we do them all.
I bought a 2008 Mini Cooper S. Clubman about a month ago. I replaced just about everything on the engine to no avail. It just would not idle like it should. I determined it was a bad timing chain. As it turned out I was right. I took it to James who agreed and he had his technician Tony replace the timing chain components. They went the extra mile to remove the oil pan and remove the chewed up debris from the oil pump screen. It now runs like a brand new car! Thanks to them, I'll enjoy this car for many years to come. Great service and very polite. Very knowledgeable too.
Rob, customerAxle and CV Joint FAQ
Do you do axle and CV joint repair for imports in Athens, GA?
Yes, we do. Athens Import Auto Repair replaces CV axles, boots and driveshaft parts on imports only. That means Honda, Toyota, Subaru, VW, Audi, BMW, Mini and more. Call 706-353-3880.
Why does my Honda click when I turn?
A click on turns means a worn outer CV joint. On Honda Accord and Civic models, the boot tears, the grease leaves and the joint wears out. The fix is a new axle.
Can I drive with a torn CV boot?
For a short time, yes. But dirt gets into the joint and grease gets out, so the joint will fail within months. Fix the boot early and you save the axle.
What is a driveshaft flex disc on a BMW?
The flex disc is a rubber ring that joins the driveshaft to the transmission. BMW and Mercedes-Benz both use them. When it cracks, you feel a clunk as you take off, so we replace it.
Why does my Audi shudder when I speed up?
A shudder on takeoff often points to a worn inner CV joint. On Audi and VW cars, this joint takes a lot of torque, so it wears. We check it for play and replace the axle if needed.
Should I replace the boot or the whole axle?
It depends on how long the boot has been torn. If the joint is still tight and clean, a new boot works. But if it clicks or has play, the whole axle is the better fix. We look and tell you which.
