Mini Cooper service in Athens, from people who know the brand
A Mini is small, but it is a real BMW under the skin. It needs the same care and the same tools. James Miner, our owner, has worked on imports since 1972. Tony, our technician, knows the Mini timing chain job well.
One owner brought us a Mini Cooper S Clubman with a bad timing chain. We replaced the chain parts. We also dropped the oil pan and cleaned the chewed up bits from the oil pump screen. That car runs like new today.

Common Mini Cooper problems we fix
Timing chain rattle
The timing chain on the 2007 to 2012 Cooper and Cooper S wears its guides and tensioner. You hear a rattle like marbles on cold start. If you wait, the chain can jump. We replace the chain, guides and tensioner.
Thermostat housing leak
The thermostat housing on a Mini is plastic. It sits at the end of the engine. It cracks and leaks coolant. We swap it for a new one and refill the system.
Power steering pump
The 2002 to 2006 Mini used an electric power steering pump. Its cooling fan clogs and the pump gets hot. Then the steering goes stiff. We replace the pump and clean the fan.
Oil leaks
Mini engines leak from the valve cover and the oil filter housing. Oil drips onto the exhaust and smokes. We replace the gasket. On the Cooper S we check the turbo oil lines too.
Carbon buildup on the Cooper S
The Cooper S turbo engine sprays fuel into the cylinder. Its intake valves get coated in carbon. The engine misfires when cold. We clean the valves and restore the idle.
Clutch and flywheel wear
Many Mini owners love the manual gearbox. The clutch and the dual mass flywheel wear out together. You feel a shudder when you pull away. We replace both at once.

Beckler, D., customerMini Cooper repair FAQ
Do you work on Mini Cooper in Athens?
Yes. Mini Cooper is one of the brands we see most at Athens Import Auto Repair in Athens, GA. Cooper, Cooper S, Clubman and Countryman all come through our shop. We know them inside and out.
Why does my Mini rattle when I start it?
That rattle is almost always the timing chain. The tensioner loses pressure and the chain slaps the guides. Get it checked soon. A jumped chain can bend valves.
Can you replace the timing chain on a Mini Cooper S?
Yes. We have done many Mini timing chain jobs. On one Clubman we also cleaned the oil pump screen. That extra step protects the new chain.
Why is my Mini leaking coolant?
The plastic thermostat housing is the top cause. The water pump and radiator hoses come next. We pressure test the system and show you the leak.
Why is the steering stiff on my older Mini?
The electric power steering pump is likely failing. On the 2002 to 2006 Mini, the pump overheats when its fan clogs. We replace the pump and the fan.
Is a Mini Cooper hard to keep running?
No, not with regular care. Oil changes on time and a good ear for new sounds go a long way. We help Mini owners plan ahead so big repairs do not surprise them.
