AC and Climate Control done right, by people who know imports

AC is more than a can of gas, because a system that is low has a leak somewhere. We find the leak, fix it and fill the system by weight. That is how the factory does it.

Do you get warm air on one side, or a click behind the dash? Call 706-353-3880 and we will track it down.

Mercedes-Benz ML and GL models often need a new blower regulator. That is the part that sets the fan speed. BMW blend door motors and Honda and Acura blend door actuators are known for clicking. Volkswagen and Audi compressors can fail and send metal through the whole system. Toyota and Lexus AC is tough, but the condenser still gets rock damage. We fix them all at Athens Import Auto Repair on Winterville Road.

Watch for these

Signs your AC needs service

Ask us about a symptom
  • The air is cool but never cold.
  • The air is cold on one side and warm on the other.
  • You hear a click or a knock from behind the dash when you change the temp.
  • The fan only runs on high, or it does not run at all.
  • There is a musty smell when the AC first turns on.
  • The compressor makes a loud grind or squeal.
What you get

What our AC service includes

Performance test

We check the vent temps and the system pressures. That tells us whether the problem is gas, air flow or electrical.

Leak test with dye

We add dye and use a UV light to find leaks. For slow leaks, we can also pressure test the system.

Compressor replacement

The compressor is the pump that moves the cold gas. When it fails, we replace it and flush out the system.

Condenser and evaporator repair

The condenser sits in front of the radiator, so it gets rock damage. The evaporator sits deep in the dash, and we fix both.

Blend door and actuator repair

Blend doors are small flaps that mix hot and cold air. A worn motor makes them click, so we replace the motor.

Evacuate and recharge

We pull the old gas out, then fill the exact amount by weight. The gas we use is the one your car was built for.

Why Athens Import Auto

Why drivers trust us with ac and climate control

Both types of gas

Newer imports use a gas called R1234yf, while older ones use R134a. Tell us your year and model, and we will tell you what it needs.

We fix the leak first

A recharge with no leak fix lasts a few weeks, so we find and fix the cause first. That way the cold air stays.

Dash work done right

Some AC parts sit deep in the dash. We take our time with those, and we put it all back like new.

★★★★★

Being a single woman in Athens, I did not feel like I was being taken advantage of like I have at most other repair shops. They were polite, courteous and respectful. After checking prices I found they were least expensive for what I had done. I am very pleased and will definitely be a return customer.

Questions people ask

AC and Climate Control FAQ

Where can I get import car AC repair in Athens, GA?

Athens Import Auto Repair on Winterville Road fixes AC on imports only. That means German, Japanese, British and Swedish cars, so call 706-353-3880 to book.

Why is my AC cold on one side and warm on the other?

This is almost always a stuck blend door. Blend doors are small flaps that mix hot and cold air, and a small motor moves them. When that motor fails, one side stays warm.

Can you just add more gas to my AC?

We can, but it will not last if there is a leak. A system that is low has a leak somewhere, so we find it and fix it first. That way the cold air stays.

What is R1234yf and does my car use it?

R1234yf is the newer AC gas, and most imports built after about 2015 use it. It needs its own machine to service. Ask us about your car, and we will tell you what it needs.

Why does my AC smell musty when it starts?

Mold grows on the evaporator when it stays damp. The evaporator is the cold part inside the dash. We clean it and replace the cabin filter, and that clears the smell.

How long does an AC repair take?

It depends on the part. A blend door motor or a recharge is quick. An evaporator sits deep in the dash, so it takes much longer. Either way, we will tell you what to expect before we start.
