Honda service in Athens, from people who know the brand
A Honda is built well. Still, a few parts wear in known ways. The VTC actuator, the AC compressor and the starter top the list. We know them by sound.
UGA students and families across Clarke County trust us with their Honda. James Miner, our owner, has been an ASE Master Technician for many years. Give us a call at 706-353-3880.

Common Honda problems we fix
VTC actuator rattle
The VTC actuator sits on the end of the camshaft. It adjusts valve timing. On many 2008 to 2015 four cylinders it rattles for a second on cold start. We replace it and the rattle is gone.
AC compressor failure
Honda AC compressors can fail and send metal through the system. The air goes warm and you may hear a grind. We replace the compressor and the dryer, then flush the lines.
Early 2000s automatic transmission
The 1999 to 2004 Accord and Odyssey automatics were weak. They slip, shift hard or fail. We service them with Honda fluid. If one is failing, we tell you the truth.
Starter failure
The starter on many Accord and CR-V models fails around 100,000 miles. The car clicks but will not crank. We replace the starter and test the battery.
Oil leaks
Valve cover gaskets and the oil pressure switch leak on many Honda engines. The switch drips onto the exhaust and smokes. Both are simple fixes.
Power steering whine
Older Honda power steering pumps whine and leak. The O-ring on the inlet lets air in. We replace the seal or the pump.

Carpenter, K., customerHonda repair FAQ
Do you work on Honda in Athens?
Yes. Honda is one of the most common brands at Athens Import Auto Repair in Athens, GA. Accord, Civic, CR-V, Pilot, Odyssey and Fit are all welcome. We have fixed Honda since 1991.
Why does my Honda rattle for a second when I start it?
That is the VTC actuator. It sits on the camshaft and adjusts valve timing. It rattles until oil pressure builds. We replace it and the noise stops.
Why is my Honda AC blowing warm?
A failed compressor is the most common cause on a Honda. A leak in the system comes next. We test the pressure and find the problem. Then we fix it and recharge the system.
Does my Honda have a timing belt?
That depends on which engine you have. Honda V6 engines use a timing belt that must be changed at 100,000 miles. Most four cylinders use a chain that lasts the life of the engine. We can tell you which one you have.
Why does my Honda click but not start?
A single loud click usually means a bad starter. A fast clicking sound means a weak battery. We test both and replace only the part that failed.
Why does my older Honda shift hard?
Old or wrong fluid is the first thing to check. Honda automatics need Honda fluid. On 1999 to 2004 models, hard shifts can mean the transmission is wearing out. We test it and give you a clear answer.
