Porsche Repair and Service in Athens, GA
Porsche repair in Athens, GA does not have to mean a long drive to a dealer. Athens Import Auto Repair has worked on Porsche since 1991. A red 944 has spent time on our lift, and we love that car.
Porsche service in Athens, from people who know the brand
A Porsche is built to be driven. It also asks for care from someone who respects it. Our owner, James Miner, holds ASE Master Technician status. He has more than 50 years with foreign cars.
We service the 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and Macan. We also enjoy the older 944 and 928. Call 706-353-3880 and let's talk about your car.

Common Porsche problems we fix
IMS bearing
The IMS bearing supports the shaft that drives the cams in older Boxster and 911 engines. When it fails, the engine can be lost. Many owners replace it during a clutch job. We can do that.
Coolant pipes
Some Cayenne and 911 engines use coolant pipes that are glued in place. The glue lets go and coolant pours out. We replace them with pipes that stay put.
Rear main seal leak
The rear main seal sits between the engine and the gearbox. On many Boxster and 911 models it leaks oil. We replace it with the updated seal.
Air oil separator
The air oil separator pulls oil mist out of the crankcase. When it fails, the car smokes on startup. A rough idle comes with it. We replace it.
Water pump failure
The Porsche water pump uses a plastic impeller. It can crack and spin loose. The engine then runs hot. We replace the pump and the thermostat.
Timing belt on the 944
The 944 uses a timing belt and a balance shaft belt. Both must be changed on time. A snapped belt means bent valves. We do this job on our lift.

A shop that loves the car
A Porsche is special to us. We treat it like it is our own.
I bought a 2008 Mini Cooper S. Clubman about a month ago. I replaced just about everything on the engine to no avail. It just would not idle like it should. I determined it was a bad timing chain. As it turned out I was right. I took it to James who agreed and he had his technician Tony replace the timing chain components. They went the extra mile to remove the oil pan and remove the chewed up debris from the oil pump screen. It now runs like a brand new car! Thanks to them, I'll enjoy this car for many years to come. Great service and very polite. Very knowledgeable too.
Rob, customerPorsche repair FAQ
Do you work on Porsche in Athens?
Yes. Athens Import Auto Repair works on Porsche cars and SUVs in Athens, GA. That includes 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and Macan. We also work on classics like the 944.
What is the IMS bearing on a Porsche?
The IMS bearing holds the intermediate shaft that turns the cams. On some 1997 to 2008 Boxster and 911 engines it can fail. We can replace it with an upgraded bearing during a clutch job.
Can you replace the coolant pipes on a Cayenne?
Yes. The glued coolant pipes on the Cayenne V8 are a known problem. We replace them with pipes that will not come loose. Then we pressure test the system.
Why does my Porsche smoke on startup?
A puff of smoke on startup often means a failed air oil separator. It lets oil into the intake while the car sits. We replace it and the smoke stops.
Do you service the Cayenne and Macan?
Yes. We handle oil service, brakes, cooling and suspension on both SUVs. Many Cayenne and Macan owners in Oconee County drive over to us.
Can you work on an older Porsche 944?
Yes. We have had a 944 on our lift many times. Timing belts, fuel systems and cooling are common jobs on these cars. We enjoy every one.
