Common Acura problems we fix
Timing belt on the V6
The V6 in the MDX, TL and older RDX uses a timing belt. It must be changed at 100,000 miles or seven years. If the belt snaps, the valves bend. We replace the belt, water pump and tensioner together.
VTC actuator noise
The VTC actuator adjusts cam timing on the four cylinder engine. On the RDX, TSX and ILX it rattles on cold start. We replace it with the updated part.
Early 2000s transmission failure
The 1999 to 2003 TL and CL automatics were known to fail. They slip and shift hard. Fresh Honda fluid helps the ones that are still healthy. We can check yours.
Torque converter shudder
Some 2010 to 2015 MDX and TL models shudder at low speed. The torque converter locks up rough. A fluid change and a software update often fix it.
AC compressor failure
Acura AC compressors fail like the Honda ones do. The air turns warm and the clutch may grind. We replace the compressor and flush the system.
Power steering leaks
The power steering pump and hoses leak on older Acura models. You hear a whine and see red fluid. We replace the leaking part.
