Worn timing chain guides
The 3.5 and 3.7 V6 engines can wear the plastic timing chain guides. The chain slaps and whines at idle. Left alone, it can jump. We replace the chains and guides as a set.
CVT on the QX60
The QX60 uses a CVT, the belt driven transmission from Nissan. It can shudder or slip as the fluid ages. Fresh fluid every 30,000 miles is the best defense. We test it and change the fluid.
Oil leaks
Infiniti V6 engines leak from the valve cover gaskets and the oil cooler gasket. Oil hits the exhaust and smokes. We reseal both.
Rotor wear
The G37 and Q50 have big brakes and eat rotors. A pulse when stopping means the rotors are warped. We replace pads and rotors with matched parts.
Catalytic converters on the G35 and FX35
The older G35 and FX35 had front catalytic converters that fall apart. The pieces can damage the engine. We check the converters when we see a misfire code.
Cam and crank sensors

Why does my Infiniti whine at idle?
A whine at the front of the engine often means worn timing chain guides. The chain rubs on a bare guide. We replace the chains and guides before the chain jumps.
Does the Infiniti QX60 have CVT problems?
Some do. The QX60 CVT can shudder or slip as the fluid wears out. Changing the fluid every 30,000 miles helps a lot. We test it and change the fluid with the right type.
